About Philippa

I am a dedicated and passionate Occupational Therapist who believes children with the right support can reach for their full potential.

I have an understanding from my own learning difficulties with Dyslexia that not all children learn in the same way, therefore I am passionate to ensure each child, no matter what level, can achieve their full potential in a learning style that is fun and suits them. I enjoy working closely with children creating activity programs to develop realistic and attainable goals for each child, to enable them to build their self-esteem and confidence to believe in their own ability.

01.

How it started

FROM THE BEGINNING

I qualified for the University of Derby in 2008 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy. After working in the NHS for 6 years I had the opportunity to work and live in Singapore for 6.5 years, where I worked in a Private Specialist Paediatric Centre as a Senior Occupational Therapist.  This is where my love for working with children and young people begun. I worked with children who presented with the following challenges:

  • Developmental delays,
  • ADD/ADHD,
  • Autism,
  • Coordination difficulties,
  • Dyspraxia,
  • Sensory processing Difficulties,
  • Handwriting
  • Visual perceptual challenges.

During this time, I was blessed to have my son Eddie who is a constant source of inspiration. He has taught me that it doesn’t matter how you get there, it’s the journey that counts, and it must be FUN!!!

To where I am now

WORKING WITH CHILDREN

I returned to the UK in 2021 to work for the NHS as a Paediatric Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist. My role continues to work with children with a variety of needs in schools, as part of my private practice and for the NHS.  When working for the NHS my specialism is supporting the team, child, schools, and families with Education Health Care Plans. Providing School based Occupational therapy to various children, and staff training when required.   I also present the team and Local Authority with Tribunal cases.

Don’t decide that you can’t before you discover that you can.

Meet Amy

Deciding at the outset of her Masters programme to specialise in paediatrics, Amy carved out a career path that began with a small private children’s practice in Chelsea.

Feeling drawn to provide a public service and expand her skills, she then joined a large children’s OT service in Ealing where she championed the use of a School-based approach. Having a keen interest in the research supporting Occupational Therapy practice, Amy has been dedicated to building and delivering evidence-based therapy and ensuring that occupation is at the forefront of her work with children, families and schools. Since 2019, Amy has led a large, dynamic team of children’s OTs in Surrey as an NHS Clinical Lead. During this time, she was instrumental in improving the efficiency of the service whilst ensuring that all children had access to high quality services that enabled them to thrive and become independent. Trained in the use of the Cognitive Orientation to Occupational Performance (CO-OP) as well as Occupational Performance Coaching (OPC) Amy values putting children at the heart of their own goal setting and ensuring that therapy involves all of those closest to the child. In addition to her OT career, Amy has volunteered to support the Professional Advisory Panel of the William’s Syndrome Foundation by delivering parent training and support to their multi-disciplinary team of experts since 2018.
